General Information for Students Pre-Requisites All Students will be required to either produce current, valid and reliable evidence of academic ability or undertake an entry evaluation test as part of the application process. Academy will assess all applications based on the Student’s ability to successfully complete the course. The training and education we provide prepares Students for the professional office, administration, IT and computerised environment and Students will be required to support their application with a commitment to punctual and predictable study and personal presentation for employment in these environments as might normally be expected by industry. At minimum, Students will require strong reading skills, equivalent school certificate level maths and written and oral English communications. Absence It is vital you call and inform us if you are unable to attend study particularly if you are on a student loan and receiving any sort of allowance. Prolonged absence or sporadic attendance may result in suspension of your course and or entitlements. Car Parking There is ample free parking in the surrounding streets Class Conduct We aim to provide a relaxed and friendly environment conducive to study. We ask all students to respect this environment and not act or behave in any way, which is disruptive to other students. We abide by Health & Safety, Racial Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, and Privacy laws. Our procedures and policies adhere to such legislation as it applies from time-to-time. Personal Hygiene As in any professional environment we work closely with people and attention to personal hygiene is vital. Where personal hygiene is an issue, the College will deal with it directly and without reservation or embarrassment it may cause you. Emergency Drill In the event of an emergency you are required to collect your personal belongings and vacate the building immediately via the emergency stair exit. You must assemble on the side walk opposite the college building. Do not leave the designated area until given permission to do so. Exams Each paper has a pre-exam and a final exam. Exam time is usually 2 to 2-1/2 hours and is included in the approximate study times quoted in the price list. Your study plan will allow you sufficient time to study and revise for exams. Pre-Exams When you have completed all the activities in the workbook & pending the Facilitator’s satisfaction with your skill level, you can undertake your pre exam. This will be conducted under normal exam conditions and requires the same pass rate that applies to final exams. The exam paper will be returned to you after it has been marked so that you can assess it and carry out further revision as required. This pre-exam does not constitute part of your final exam. Final Exams At the successful completion of the allocated study time and pre-exam you will be required to sit the final exam. Final exams require a 75% pass rate except for text processing, audio dictaphone and bookkeeping exams which require an 80% pass rate. Re-Sub Exams In the event that you fail your pre-exam and/or final exam you will be given the opportunity to re-sit the exam in accordance with the re-sub policy. Re-Counts If you are not satisfied with the result of your exams you may apply to the Directors for a re-count in accordance with the re-count policy. Health & Safety If you are aware of any issue that jeopardizes health and safety to yourself and/or other students you must report it to the Directors, Principal or the Facilitator immediately. For your personal health and safety it is important that you inform us of any serious illness, medical condition, need for medication or medical procedure so that we can act quickly, appropriately and in an informed manner in case of an emergency. An alternate emergency contact person is also vital and it is your responsibility to ensure that we have a current contact and that those details are correct. Holidays The college is closed on all public holidays and for approximately 3 weeks over Christmas - New Year period. Information & Privacy All information is collected and managed under the provisions of the Privacy Act. Your records are available to you at any time. No information is collected that is not essential to an operational, management and/or reporting function. We only disclose information about students to third parties where required to do so as agents by law. Misconduct The Directors reserve the right to suspend or expel any student for misconduct in accordance with college policy. Office Services Students are not permitted to use any of the equipment for personal use without the permission of the Principal or Facilitator. Photocopiers, facsimile and Internet services are provided for college purposes and are not to be used by students without permission or instruction from the Principal or Facilitator. Telephone Telephones are provided primarily for college business. The telephone is available at 20c per call. The phone should not be used for non-essential calls and students are requested to avoid receiving external calls. Policy College policies are open and available to all students. Policies must not be removed from the file, copied or distributed without written permission from the Directors but you may request a copy of any policy and it will be provided free of charge. Refreshments A user-pays snack bar ($1.50 or $2 per item - Honesty system. Charity Benefits) and communal refreshment areas are provided. Tea and coffee is provided free of charge. Refreshments are not to be consumed at any of the computer terminals or work stations. A Common Room is available and you are welcome to bring your own lunch and refreshments. A refrigerator is available for storage. There are also a number of conveniently located cafés. dairies and lunch bars in the vicinity. Reviews Student reviews are carried out approximately once a month and you are requested to participate in these reviews to assist you in course completion and assist us in college development. Study Plans Study plans are prepared for you and act as a general guide for you to work to. Smoking Smoking is not permitted in any part of the building. Complaints The complaints policy is detailed in the Policy and Procedures folder, displayed in the interview room and posted on the student notice board. The complaints procedure will be explained to you at interview. You are encouraged to read this policy, ask questions and ensure that you understand the procedure. Should you have any questions please direct them to the interviewer or your facilitator as appropriate. If you have any complaints about the interview process you may discuss them with the interviewer or college principal. Personal Property and Injury The Academy of Learning takes no responsibility whatsoever for loss, theft, or damage of or to personal property brought to and/or left at the Academy of Learning. The Academy of Learning will not held liable whatsoever for any injury, ill health or death to you or your visitors. The college management takes all reasonable precautions to avoid causes of injury or ill health. However, you enter the college and its premises at your own risk.
