Project Management Fundamentals

COURSE INTRODUCTION:-

The Project Management Fundamentals course introduces key project management concepts and practices.  This course is designed to provide the project management novice with the theory, knowledge, and tools required to better understand the processes, knowledge areas, stakeholder requirements, resources, and constraints associated with project management.

Students learn about project management within the context of the five process groups of project management: the initiating process group, the planning process group, the executing process group, and the closing process group.  This introductory project management course presents the concepts and practices used by project managers in fields such as construction, marketing, and information technology, but focuses on the application of project management principles to the field of information technology.

A practice exercise and questions are included at the end of each lesson to reinforce the concepts covered and to help students measure their progress.

COURSE PREREQUISITES:

Windows Level 1, Microsoft Word Level 1, and Microsoft Excel Level 1 courses, or equivalent.

Lesson 2:  Project Initiation Processes; The Project Charter

Lesson 3:  Scope Planning; Scope Definition; The Work Breakdown Structure

Lesson 4: Project Activities; Defining and Sequencing Project Activities; Project Network
                Diagrams; Estimating Activity Duration; Schedule Development

Lesson 5:  Cost Management; Resource Planning; Cost Estimating; Creating a Budget

Lesson 6:  Human Resources Planning; Communications Planning; Executing a Project

Lesson 7:  Controlling Processes; Scope Verification and Scope Change Control; Schedule
                Control; Cost Control

Lesson 8:  The Closing Processes; Administrative Closure; Contract Closure
