Course Dates, Extensions and Fees Policy Course finish dates are calculated so as to provide sufficient time for students to complete the course material, revise, sit exams and have the opportunity to re-sit failed exams. Our policy is to provide students with every reasonable opportunity to complete the course. Where students will not complete a course within the specified dates they may apply to the Directors for a thirty-day extension to their course on an “Application For Course Extension” form. Applications for any extension must be made not less than 14 days prior to the end date of the course. An initial extension may be granted, without charge for use of study resources, at the sole discretion of the Directors. Any extension offered by Academy will be subject to all Ministry of Education, Work and Income New Zealand, Study Link and any other Governing Body policies and procedures that may apply which include but are not limited to the following. Whilst Academy may agree to course extensions, Students receiving a Student Allowance may not be paid their allowance for the additional weeks granted by Academy due to Study Link policy. Students who apply for an extension are still considered to be “Full Time Students” even though they may not be in receipt of a Student Allowance. Since Full Time Students are not deemed to be available for Full Time employment they may not be deemed to be eligible for any community wage or other unemployment benefit due to Work and Income policy. With the exception of extenuating circumstances or where the Directors decline an application, additional study will be charged at the rate of $200 per paper, $25 per pre exam, $25 per final exam and $50 per re-sub exam undertaken during that extension period. Where students’ course dates have expired and they want to complete their study in their own time and only to come into the college to sit exams, then there is a $50 charge per paper plus the charges indicated in 9 above. Payment must accompany each application for extension. The fees will be fully refunded if the student withdraws the application prior to the commencement of the extension or where the Directors determine an extension should be granted free of charge or where an extension is refused.
