Clerical Systems & Office Procedures COURSE INTRODUCTION:- This course will introduce the user to the principles of Office Practice as well as some fundamental facts about business. You may find yourself working for a large company or for a small business run by one person. In order for you to be able to play an effective role within any business organisation and to be able to utilise the Office Practice skills learnt on this course, it is useful to have an overview of “Business” in general. OF INTEREST TO:- School leavers and students with little or no business knowledge. COURSE AIM:- To enable students to learn important information pertaining to working within a business environment. COURSE CONTENT:- Section 1: The Function of an Office, the Office Environment, Office Equipment. Section 2: Office Staff, Personnel in an Office, Organisational Skills, Prioritising, The Six Principles of Time Management, Steps to successful Time Management. Section 3: Office Procedures, Telephone & Communication Systems, Communication used to formulate messages, Written Messages, Visual Communications, Written Communications, Managing Internal Mail. Section 4: Working with Electronic Mail, Finding an E-mail Address, Parts of an E-mail Message, Microsoft Internet Mail, Checking for Messages, Creating a New Message, Signature File, Attaching Files to Messages, Address Book, Using Folders and Creating Folders, Copier Features, Facsimile Equipment, Postal Services, Outgoing Mail. Section 5: Security, Files and Filing Procedures. Section 6: Business Forms and Calculations. Section 7: What is a Database?, Planning a Database. COURSE NOTES:- Course material is provided as an ongoing reference. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be issued with a certificate of completion or students achieving 75 % or higher will receive a certificate of achievement.
